Scott Hardie: “It ruled.”

As a student of notorious theme parks and attractions, I'm familiar with New Jersey's infamous Action Park, considered one of the most dangerous American amusement parks ever made, but this documentary must be the definitive telling of its story. Through interviews and animation, the movie explains what went horrifically wrong with the design and execution of these rides, and why they had such appeal to a certain generation of teenagers. But the movie's best accomplishment is connecting the park's lax safety to the general spirit of the 1980s, an era of deregulation and the prioritization of profit. Action Park couldn't have happened at any other time, and the scars (and graves) that it left behind will hopefully be reminders not to let it happen again.
