Enough Said

Scott Hardie: “It ruled.”

As good of a writer as Nicole Holofcener is, this movie wouldn't work half as well as it does without the immutable charisma of Julia Louis-Dreyfus and James Gandolfini, whose personal chemistry and comedic timing carry the movie through some predictable sitcom-grade plot material. (Must every romantic courtship in comedies be based on a big lie that threatens to break up the couple in the third act, and that would be immediately resolved if the liar would just admit to making a simple mistake?) Some fans of the late Gandolfini probably would have preferred that he conclude his career with a weightier role more befitting his talent, but I think it's nicely redemptive for him to play a decent, funny, loving person after being associated with such a despicable scumbag on TV for so long. Louis-Dreyfus has long since mastered this kind of material, and she's especially funny playing against Toni Collette as her spoiled, bored best friend on the verge of a midlife crisis. This is worth renting for anyone who likes the two leads, and who doesn't?
