Scott Hardie: “It ruled.”

I skipped this during its initial release, out of annoyance that people kept saying "what an original idea," after I had just seen the same idea done well in the overlooked Love Object. But I'm glad that Kelly talked me into seeing this, because it is sweet and funny and gentle, and a very different take on that "idea." I find it very implausible that a entire community, without exception, would go along with this plastic imaginary girlfriend, but at least we're spared the traditional scene where a prankster vandalizes the doll and traumatizes our sensitive hero. And it leads to some very funny material about how much the town begins including "her" in things. I really enjoyed this.
