Evie Totty: “It was ok.”

(This is on the 'it was great!' side of 'ok')

This film was pretty much made by Elton John. I don't know his whole story, but he shows us the good and bad sides of himself during the 70s. It ends with the song 'I'm Still Standing' - but now when you hear it, it has a WHOLE different meaning for you now that you know the background behind it.

Variety put out a list of their ten worst films (from two reviewers so it's really more than ten) and this one was on it. I am not sure why, honestly. I did find myself not knowing near as many of John's songs as I thought (as opposed to knowing every Queen song in Bohemian Rhapsody) but it didn't matter.

I also enjoyed getting to 'know' Bernie Taupin. Before this movie, I just knew he wrote songs with John. I didn't know he pretty much wrote almost all of the lyrics to the songs where John wrote the music. Very nice indeed. I'm glad they made it through those rough times ...
