Samir Mehta: “It was ok.”

It almost sucked and it almost ruled. But it was ok. It lived and died as a Baz Luhrman production - it had wondrous visuals and style, but the nuance and insight of the novel are turned into a trite romance. If you like the book sincerely, you'll find the film wanting. But it has some nice production design and Leo is solid.

Erik Bates: “It was ok.”

The visuals and the soundtrack were very Baz Lurhmann. I expected nothing but the best in those categories. It's been so long since I've read the book that I didn't have the highest expectations (or the memory of the plot) to say that it did or did not stay true to the source. I found it entertaining, and fun to look at, but that's about the extent of it... ol' sport.
