Yesterday was my 13th anniversary of dating Kelly. We've been through many ups and downs together, and those downs have to do with why we're not married yet, but I love her as much now as I ever have. Here are 13 things that have been a part my life for less time than we've been dating:

- The Internet.

- My cousin Vanessa, who's now in middle school.

- Paying taxes.

- Manhood. (Get your mind out of the gutter!)

- A high school diploma.

- JonBenet Ramsey, Theodore Kaczynski, Dolly the sheep, and other news figures of 1996.

- Having a brother.

- Voting.

- Sony PlayStation.

- Not living under my parents' roof.

- Chinese buffets.

- Every friend I have, except Lori.

- Knowing what love is.

I really like this list! Certainly puts things in perspective. It definitely is a heartwarming thought that you've been in love with Kelly longer than with Chinese buffets. Is Vanessa the little one we met in Pittsburgh in 2000? (Zippy disk!)

Buying a Printer

I bet if you work in a grocery store, you spend part of the time rearranging food that you know is going to get thrown away after it doesn't sell, so you feel like you're going to a lot of trouble for nothing. That's what buying a printer feels like. I hate buying printers because I'm highly skeptical that I can find one that will still work after six months, after Kelly and I have gone through a long series of them for the last ten years that all broke down like flimsy pieces of crap. Magical Miami

I didn't know until I just visited there that Miami was nicknamed "the Magic City." That seems a little strange when another city in Florida is already associated with one kind of magic and another, but whatever. I just spent the better part of a week in Miami for work travel. Go »

Falling Snow

It was twenty years ago today that my father passed away. I almost didn't write something today, because I don't feel particularly creative enough at the moment to do his memory justice. But a plain remembrance is better than none at all, and besides, he's been on my mind a lot this week. Go »
