My weekend

Hmm well I hope this post is appearing in my blog, maybe I am a bit confused by the changes.
I was worried we would have a bad weekend, because we had no DVDs from Netflix or the library, and our AC isn't working and it's been really hot. But finally the weekend was saved by the ultra quick arrival on Saturday of Sims 2 which I ordered Thursday... I got the "Apartment Life special collection" which is double deluxe plus apartment life. I like it... It definitely seems more fun than Sims 1 (although I was totally addicted to Sims 1 for quite a while). It seems easier to maintain your friendships and advance your skills. I got my first sim to her lifetime aspiration of being at the top of the medical career within the weekend. That's a lot quicker than some of the goals in the original Sims... for instance I gave up before managing to get my Sims to 5 star fame, and it was incredibly tedious earning magic coins. I know Scott had some comments on Sims 2 years ago when it was a bit more relevant. I should look up what he had to say about it and see if I agree. :)
Also we watched Teen Wolf, which was pretty amusingly stupid, and got caught up in the debate which is still ongoing as to whether the person opening their pants in the background at the end is a boy or a girl. And we watched Empire Records, which I saw years and years ago but didn't really remember. I think when I saw it before I wasn't bitter enough to really get the point, and the point, as I see it, is that the people in that movie live in a much sweeter and nicer world than the real world and this is heartwarming in some weird way.
I know my life is a bit stupid and pointless and I really am not fulfilling my own lifetime aspiration unless that aspiration is "pleasure" in which case I'm not doing such an amazingly decadent job of it... oh well.. I am happy, thanks in part to Prozac. :P

The screwed-up date thing sounds like a bug, but luckily a minor one. I'm glad you're enjoying the game!
I stayed away from the Sims for maybe a month, but I gave in when bored one weekend, and I still play it a lot to this day. The bugs in the game still really bother me, because they just like sloppy programming rushed by the marketing department's schedule; I'd rather wait three more months for something that works right. Like just last week, the grocery driver dropped off the food, got back in his truck, and sat there without driving away, for days on end. His engine kept running, so I had really non-stop rumbling through the speakers, and I couldn't order any additional groceries, and I couldn't interact with him or use a cheat to delete him. I had to have the family move out and live elsewhere, which was very unpleasant because I'd put a lot of time into getting the house right. That sort of glitch happens way too often and really detracts from what is otherwise a really fun and addictive game.
Kelly just got me Apartment Life a few weeks ago; it's pretty good. If you want a challenge, try playing the orphans family. They're in the clear once the youngest grow up a little, but even with the help of a butler, I barely made it through the toddler years.

The game's going well.. got a Sim to be a business tycoon, she's married to a senator, who is Marcus Cole from Babylon 5, and their first baby just became a child :P. I will try the orphans eventually, wanted to familiarize myself with the whole kid raising system first. Hopefully I will get less addicted soon. I haven't had any bad bugs. Marcus's wife went on their honeymoon alone but they both seemed happy enough with the arrangement.

I have a problem when Scott plays the Sims, if he doesn't have his headphones on while playing and I'm in the room, I repeat anything that is said in Simlish. I could talk like that for hours.

LOL... that sounds like a problem I would have as well, hahaha...
Denise: I'd say that "pleasure" (or "the pursuit of happiness", if you're into the season!), being one of the fundamental principles in the founding of our country (and, quite possibly, the most difficult), is a fine aspiration in life. Hell... especially if you can manage to do it in such a way that doesn't infringe upon or exploit the existence of others, which is more than I think a lot of folks in pursuit of their own happiness can say. And although I can certainly relate to the need/use of meds like Prozac to accomplish this, too... my greatest wish for anyone is to find themselves capable of this basic right without such aid. But basically... good for you -- don't feel bad or guilty for just wanting to be happy!

The guys made it to 4th level and then we added 2 new characters. We had a dragonborn warlord and an elf ranger, at 4th level we added an eladrin wizard and a dwarf fighter. Darrell is playing the fighter and warlord, Darrin has the ranger (though he's not exactly into the game so we're lucky if we're able to call him to the table to actually make his dice rolls) and I got the wizard even though I'm DM :-P. So I see Scott found the game unplayable due to too many bugs. I haven't encountered much in the way of bugs yet, but to clarify, I really haven't tried out many of the features. All I did was move my one Sim into the trailer park and get her through the Medical career. The career advancement and learning definitely seemed to go faster and more smoothly. This is probably necessary since your dumb Sims can get old and die on you. I didn't let her get old. I didn't use the cheat to stop aging but I purchased the "aspiration reward" that can keep you young, twice. The one bug I may have encountered is that my Sim had fallen in love with her neighbor who lived in the next trailer, so I had her ask him on a date and tried to walk with him to a neighborhood restaurant, but when I got to the restaurant he never showed up. Maybe I should have called a cab. When I got back he still seemed to think he was on a date with me. Actually he seemed to be just leaving to go to the restaurant. Not sure if that was a bug or something I just did wrong. :P But it wasn't too destructive, they still liked each other despite the apparently disastrous date.
